Jubilee Punch
Simple, soft, and sweet; a delicate blushing pink shade, fit for your throne. The Jubilee Punch is a gentle pastel hue that has connotations of nature’s happiest colour and can be styled as part of a contemporary aesthetic. Delicate blossoms, beautiful seashells, and a springtime dawn sky, come to mind, that leans to a more neutral palette and is perfect for creating a soft and cosy aesthetic. The warming undertones of brown and apricot grant a more wholesome atmosphere for any home.

Jubilee Grey

Plush platinum grey, for our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! Jubilee Grey is a soft, light to medium depth grey with a silvery edge thanks to the chenille, giving different shades in different lighting. A cool grey hue that fits in beautifully with any home, the ideal neutral colour for soft and cosy aesthetics. When we see this colour, we think of molten silver hues in the early winter clouds; imagine curling up in the conservatory under a cosy blanket, watching a storm unfold. A truly timeless and practical colour.

Help us raise donations this April for the National Autistic Society

help us raise donations for national autistic society

This year, YOU can make a difference! With every purchase of our wicker items this month, we’re donating 10% to the National Autistic Society and giving you an extra 10% discount as a thank you for helping to raise funds for our chosen charity.

The month of April is World Autism Month, and it begins with the United Nations led World Autism Awareness Day, on April 2nd, which highlights the need to fully accept those with autism so they can lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society.

Our chosen charity for this year’s World Autism Month is the National Autistic Society. They are the UK’s leading charity for people on the autism spectrum and their families, since 1962.

What is Autism?

The National Autistic Society provides all the information you will need in beginning to understand what autism is and how it is a spectrum condition that affects people in many ways.

Click here to find out more about what autism is.

Here’s a short video from the National Autistic Society that helps visually explain what autism is, narrated by Alan Gardner, the Autistic Gardener.

Why did we choose the National Autistic Society?

Recently, we’ve been working with @mayasmoonplay and have been truly inspired by Maddy’s dedication to improving Maya’s journey through life. See Maddy’s answers below to learn about how the National Autistic Society has helped her and her family.

  • How has the National Autistic Society supported you over the years?

“The National Autistic Society has provided events and activities we have attended personally where Maya is able to play and be around other autistic children in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment. It has meant for me, as a parent, that I got to meet other parents of autistic children, which is vital in feeling included and reducing isolation for parent carers.”

  • Do you have any advice for parents who are experiencing the same journey?

“At the beginning it can feel quite daunting, knowing your child is taking a different path to most other children, but over time you learn about autism, and it gets easier. I personally advise parents to listen to adult autistic voices. After all, they were autistic kids once, so take advantage of local autism courses and not be fearful of trying a variety of things to support our children with things like alternative communication, sensory equipment etc.

Also, using portage from as early as possible is key in getting all the support in place once they reach school age with EHCP’s. And most importantly, not trying to change our children but accepting them as they are.”

To keep up with Maddy and Maya’s journey and to learn more about autism advocacy, follow her on Instagram, TikTok, Blog, or Pinterest!

What other ways can I help the National Autistic Society?

There are so many ways you can support the National Autistic Society, from raising money by running, cycling, or even hosting an online quiz with family/ friends and helping transform the lives of autistic people.

Campaigning with the National Autistic Society and lobbying your local MP council, and businesses to ensure autistic people and their families get the support and services they are entitled to. Or you can simply donate through their website:

Playroom Ideas to Inspire Sensory Play

Playroom Ideas To inspire Sensory Play

A playroom is a perfect solution to prevent toys from inching into other areas of your home, however, a well-designed playroom can not only ignite inspiration but can also provide sensory learning and early development.

What is sensory play? Sensory play is introducing your child to different activities that will stimulate their senses of touch, smell, taste, sight, and hearing, as well as anything that will engage their movements and balance. Encouraging your child to learn through exploration, curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity can help to build nerve connections in the brain, which can massively promote the development of language and motor skills.

It’s these simple yet effective activities that can stimulate early development in your child and here we have listed a few ideas you should use to create the perfect playroom to inspire sensory play!

1. Foam Play Mat Tiles

Encouraging your child to explore their surroundings and find their own limitations can be pretty scary for a parent, particularly when they’re quite young.

Using Foam Floor Tiles can help to ease those concerns as one of the best ways to learn is through experience, so if your child is fairly new on their feet, the soft play mats should help to cushion them as they start to get more confident, as well as being soft on their hands and knees as they crawl around.

This photo from @craigfamilyblog is a beautiful example of allowing your child to freely explore their surroundings and they have used bright colours and different textures to involve more senses.

2. Tepee Tents

Calming spaces, cool down spots, sensory tents, whichever term you prefer, are a great addition to any playroom!

Just like adults, children also go through different stresses in their day and having a little den where they can go to chill out, maybe take a nap in there or play a game in a space where they feel a sense of calm and safety, adds to their sensory experience and emotional development.

This isn’t a place for time outs, it’s their own dedicated place of comfort they initiate using by themselves. A child who can advocate for their own needs is the best form of sensory play.

This photo from @bowinthesky is a perfect example of how Tepees can help your playroom to feel more wholesome and complete.

3. Cosy Reading Nook

Create a cosy reading nook in a corner of the playroom, preferably a quiet place with a source of natural light.

Reading nooks are perfect for building tighter bonds with your child as you both are setting out on an adventure together, by helping to ignite their imagination and build on their language skills.

The key to building a successful reading nook is finding the right chair for both of you to snuggle up and get comfortable. Here we are showing our Natural Arch Chair and our Natural Snug Chair, both of which offer a large low seat with a luxuriously thick cushion.

The first photo from @peonie.cole.cottage shows a more dainty and tranquil side to our Natural Arch Chair, whilst the second photo from @itsmotherland offers a more welcoming wider frame.

4. Easy Storage & Organisation

Teaching your child important life skills can be a little frustrating at times, especially if they have a lot of toys.

Make tidy-up time fun and introduce it as part of their schedule, a few minutes of tidy up time before getting ready for bed should be enough to get them into a routine for putting things away by themselves.

This photo from @blossom_housetohome demonstrates perfectly how storage can be fun, with the use of small animal baskets, a handy storage cubby at child-friendly heights and hanging hooks for longer items. Tidying up is fun for no one, so remember to keep it positive and engaging, even for just a couple of minutes per day!

All the chairs in the photos used can be found in our Wicker Chair category, including a wide selection of other styles to suit your tastes! We would LOVE to see how you’ve used our furniture in your nursery or playroom! Either tag us in the pic or use the hashtag #mydesser

Sunbrella Outdoor Fabric Furniture

blog banners 13

Introducing the Sunbrella range of furniture

When looking at the various options for furniture on Desser, you’ll find a good variety of natural rattan furniture. But as well as our wicker selection, we also have Sunbrella outdoor furniture. This is something that you may not be familiar with but if you are looking for stylish outdoor furniture, it’s a range worth considering. All of our outdoor fabric furniture such as the Aruba range is made from the Sunbrella fabric which contains weatherproof material, allowing you to leave your garden patio furniture outside all year round.

Stylish and functional

During the summertime, you will almost certainly be tempted to spend some time in your garden. This could be to enjoy the morning sun or to dine al fresco.

Like all of our outdoor furniture, Sunbrella is specifically designed for outdoor use. Whether you’ll be sitting on your own, having a meal with your family, or even inviting people around for a party, items from this range will turn your garden into a relaxing space which can allow you to enjoy the beauty of your garden.

Not only this, but some of our outdoor fabric furniture also comes with a fire pit set, allowing you to entertain and even cook on those colder nights throughout the Autumn and Winter months.

Comfortable

Like the furniture in your home, your choice of outdoor patio furniture needs to be comfortable. That means as well as a strong structure, you want soft, supportive cushions both on the base of the seat and the back.

Without the right cushions, it can feel too hard on your backside but with Sunbrella, these seats provide the same level of comfort that you can expect to find on any indoor furniture.

Garden Patio Furniture Made to Last

We make sure that every part of an item of outdoor furniture is tough enough to withstand being outdoors. As well as strong structure, you want the upholstery to stand the test of time too.

As well as being shower resistant, it is also mould resistant, a common problem with lower grade upholstery. It’s also UV resistant, helping to prevent the sun from fading the colour

It’s built for family life and entertainment too because the upholstery fabric is also stain resistant, welcome news when you’re welcoming guests for a summer party. Quick drying, it shakes off summer showers without a problem.
