Hill Care operates 38 Care Homes throughout the UK, covering Derbyshire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Manchester, West and South Yorkshire, and the North East. Their team strive to preserve the dignity, individuality and privacy of all their residents within a welcoming and caring atmosphere.
As 2019 was our 100th year in business, we decided to celebrate by giving back to the community. Startled by the statistics of loneliness across the UK, we came up with our ‘single suites’ initiative. We provided a handful of care homes with our comfortable indoor rattan suites which are fully assembled in the UK, including hand-sewn cushions by our team in Manchester. The aim was to provide a comfortable setting for residents to sit, enjoy and socialise together.
The idea behind this was that residents could have a great new meeting place, sit down with other residents and visitors and have a fab place to have a natter with their cuppa. Loneliness across the UK is on the rise with statistics indicating that by 2025 more than 2 million over 50’s will feel lonely. Compared to 2016 this will be a 46% increase. Sometimes the simplest thing such as a catch up with a friend once a week can help close this gap – which is why we were inspired to help!
Loneliness is detrimental to health, with research stating that it can be just as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. It can increase a person’s chances of suffering from dementia, heart disease and depression. It has even been said that loneliness is likely to increase the risk of an early death too.
We are so pleased with the amazing feedback from each care home in regard to our initiative. Residents have loved their new suites, using them all the time and the photos speak for themselves!
