Wicker furniture has always been hugely popular, thanks to the fact that it looks great, is incredible durable and is multi-functional.

However, even the best wicker conservatory furniture can start to look a little worn after a while. If yours is starting to show some signs of wear and tear, you can easily get it back into perfect condition by showing it a little TLC.

Here’s how to get your furniture back into great shape:

1) Wash and dry wicker carefully

Wicker furniture needs to be gently wiped down with a damp cloth once a week to remove dust and debris from the weave. During the drying process, you must ensure no one uses the furniture until it’s completely dry, otherwise the weave may come out of place or be accidentally reshaped. 5

2) Protect wicker from direct sunlight

Just like rattan, wicker can be bleached if left in direct sunlight. One of the easiest ways to prevent this is to ensure your sofas and chairs are placed in shady areas of the room or, if you’re certain you would like to place them in the conservatory of by a window, you can make use of throws and scatter cushions. 6

3) Polish and varnish wicker furniture

You can polish and varnish your wicker furnishings every so often to increase their durability and shine, so they’ll last for longer and look great at the same time. Lemon oil makes a great polish, while specially-made varnish can also be used.

Whether you want to get your three-piece furniture set or a small wicker basket back to its heyday, these handy tips are sure to help.

If you’re on the hunt for a brand new sofa or armchair, have you considered investing in rattan?

Rattan furnishings are absolutely ideal for a range of settings and lifestyles, whether you have kids, you live alone or you live with housemates.

If you’re still a little unsure though, check out these top reasons why you need rattan and wicker furnishings in your life:

1) Rattan comes in all shapes and sizes

And styles, for that matter. It’s not just armchairs and sofas you can get in rattan – you’ll also be able to find dining sets, outdoor furnishings, coffee tables and occasional tables, as well as much more. So, you’ll never have to worry about mismatched furnishings again!

2) Rattan is eco-friendly

Rattan is a fast-growing palm which is farmed in Asia and Africa and it can grow in standing water (meaning it makes use of otherwise derelict ground) and it can only grow in forests. This means your rattan furniture actually promotes reforestation and, as it’s the ideal crop for a smallholding, supports some of the poorest people by providing them with jobs.

3) Rattan is cost-effective

You’re sure to get a long life out of your rattan furniture, as it’s designed to stay strong. Its construction means that it won’t fall apart easily, and there are lots of maintenance tasks you can carry out to extend the life of your furniture even further.

4) Rattan is ideal for busy lifestyles

If you lead a hectic lifestyle and you just want a sofa, armchair, dining set or any other piece of furniture that doesn’t need a lot of maintenance, rattan is the ideal option for you.

Not only this, but you’ll also find that it’s easy to manage, since it doesn’t stain easily (spilt drinks can simply be wiped off the surface of the rattan and the area dried carefully) and just needs a wipe down every now and then.

Do you think you’ll be going in for rattan furniture?

If you take a gander in most people’s conservatories, you’ll probably notice an abundance of cane furniture.

For some reason, cane seems to be the go-to option when furnishing your conservatory, but there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t place a cane sofa in a living room, or even a cane armchair on the upstairs landing.

In fact, if you want to break tradition this season, you should definitely use cane outside of its comfort zone.

Why? Well, here are just a few reasons:

It’s attractive

Cane furniture is absolutely stunning to look at, and it can create lovely juxtaposition between the upholstery and cane. You can also get cane furniture in all kinds of shades and tones, so you’ll find a suite to suit your interior décor no matter what.

It can be incredibly modern

A lot of people have the image of cane furniture as a bit of a fuddy-duddy furniture choice in their heads, but this isn’t necessarily true. As you can see, cane furniture can be completely up-to-date and decidedly stylish!
